Epicurean Delight
Just look at this delectable treat! So tasty ..... so juicy.... so delightful! Click on it for the full effect. It started with cream cheese and cucumbers. Then came the carrot shavings. The tomatoes arrived next with a light sprinkling of salt and freshly ground pepper. The spinach gives it the lovely contrasting green colour and sliced aromatic basil tops it all off. Could you ask for anything more eye-catching between two pieces of soft multi-grain ambrosia? How can anyone say that this is just a sandwich?!

Bits of Wool and Bronze
Today I was encouraged to post some of my latest creations. In July, I knit this bag while at the cottage on Keats Island and felted it when I got home.
I dyed this off-white wool with strawberry kool-aid
and loved the bright red colour.
I buffed, polished,
and finished my "Abundance" medallion. It is meant to be a representation of my city's community spirit.
I had fun creating things in July. In the kitchen, I made a tomato, feta and caramelized onion pie (inspired by the Simply in Season cookbook). Regrettably, I do not have a picture of it. It was the most tasty of my creations.
I wonder what the rest of the summer will bring?

Keats Getaway
Last week we spent a delightful 4 days and 3 nights in this cottage on Keats Island-2 ferry rides away from the busyness of the everyday. It really felt like another world with trails through old-growth forests, tidal pools to explore, starfish on the beach, water taxis to ride in, and the best tire swing in the world. This is the cozy cottage-it even had a real fireplace to snuggle up by with a good book or knitting project on the rainy days.
Starfish we saw while beach-combing. and speaking of beach-combing.....

We took the water taxi into Gibsons for groceries and tasted the best fried oysters and halibut.
This is the view from our porch.
And this is one view from our sandy beach. Sometimes it's just nice to enjoy some different scenery.

Animal babies
It has been 2 years in a row now that Mama deer has revealed her precious secret to us on Father's Day. Isn't her baby sweet?
Speaking of babies, the little ones in the nest are hummingbirds that live on a strand of Christmas lights in our yard. We first discovered the nest with one egg on Mother's Day.
Summer pleasures
The kids had some friends over on Friday and they built this great fort. E invited me out to play in it with her. When I got in, I laid down on the blue towel and started to doze off. She covered me with the other towel and said I could have a rest. It was lovely! I fell asleep to the sweet sound of our backyard birds. I wasn't sure about camping in our tent this year but as I lay there words like "delightful" floated through my head. I awoke with a few sore points on my body but nothing could dampen the joy I felt at having once again experienced the childhood pleasure of sleeping in an outdoor fort.

A poem
A man took a icepack
to Iraq
in his knapsack
while riding in a Cadillac.
He went to a racetrack
and stepped on a thumbtack
which triggered a heart attack.
The man was saved by a lumberjack
who was a complete maniac.
